ABOUT US
Fishwick Rangers Y&CDS is a local community organisation based in Preston. It began as a football club, but has now expanded into a Youth & Community Development Scheme with provision for people Preston-wide.
Fishwick Rangers Youth & Community Development Scheme has been an established organisation for the last seven years. We have a proven track-record of facilitating and delivering high quality services and projects for disadvantaged people. As a local voluntary organisation, we are able to be flexible and responsive to local need and on-going review of our activities with service users backs this up.
The organisation has grown from a small start-up organisation to a fully functional purpose-built organisation catering for the needs of the entire community. We have had financial growth maintained by a sound financial base including contributions from a very active community and local businesses.
The organisation provides new and diverse interests and activities for young & elderly people, so they are diverted away from crime and drugs. It also aims to provide them with enjoyment and satisfaction, giving the opportunity to be part of the community. The scheme will enable them to gain key skills in teamwork, communication and build self-confidence.
AIMS & OBJECTIVES
- The provision of recreational and leisure time activities provided in the interest of social welfare, designed to improve their conditions of life.
- Providing support and activities which develop their skills, capacities and capabilities to enable them to participate in society as mature and responsible individuals.
- The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision of facilities for the playing of sport and physical activity.
- The advancement of education of the public by the provision of educational activities, courses and training.
- The promotion of social inclusion for the public benefit by preventing people from becoming socially excluded, relieving the needs of those people who are socially excluded and assisting them to integrate into society.
AWARDS
The group has been voted Preston’s Community Organisation of the Year in successive years (2009 & 2010) at the Preston MWR Awards.

The prestigious National Honour has recognised outstanding contributions made to local communities by groups voluntarily devoting their time for the benefit of others. It sets the national benchmark for excellence in volunteering, with the work of those awarded being judged of the highest standard.
The Group has had volunteers who have gained the following honours-
Lancashire’s Young People’s champion – 2007
Lancashire’s Young People’s champion – 2008
Lancashire’s commended High Sheriff of the Year citizen award - 2008
Prince’s Trust project of the region - 2008
5 STRANDS OF WORK
The organisation has achieved PQASSO quality standard over the last 12 months and would like to thank the mentors from Young Lancashire for the help.
Also, the organisation has recently achieved REACH quality standard.
The members and volunteers of the group are very keen and enthusiastic and without their valuable time the scheme would not have achieved the many successes to date
FUTURE STRATEGY
Youth Development Strategy
We pride ourselves on being at the forefront of the local community, in helping the youth of today.
An important aspect of the scheme is to give support and encouragement to children of all ages and abilities.
The Way Forward
We believe the next stage for development, must be to maintain the high standards set and expand in terms of attracting new members.
Through our development strategy we will take positive steps to encourage and give young people the opportunity to be heard and represented within the community, whilst our ethos of equality for all.
WE WANT TO ENSURE THAT WE:
Review annually the aims, objectives and constitutional structure of the Network to ensure they are ‘fit for purpose.’
Secure sustainable funding beyond the three-year period and ensure effective mechanisms are in place to manage funding. The funding to cover as a minimum management and administrative costs (for example, venue, stationary, telephone, attendance allowances), secretarial support, development and maintenance of the website, information dissemination and promotion of the network. Ideally, sustainable funding would also be acquired to cover: - research, policy development work, staffing, rent, activities and consultation events in order to extend the level of influence of the Network.
Explore the potential for securing sustainable funding with the Regional Boards and the Regional Partnerships and identify/ explore other potential funding sources.
Discuss with potential funders and partners the contribution the sector can make in taking the regional agenda forward and how the partners/funders could assist in supporting the Scheme.
Commission a report reviewing member and partner satisfaction with the Scheme.
Establish with Scheme members both their future aspirations for the Scheme and the potential future scenarios facing the sector.
